Plans have been submitted for a purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development in York – in a new six storey building. The development will provide housing for over 100 students.

The proposed PBSA will provide 112 bedrooms in a mix of cluster units and self-contained studios. The proposals include four car parking spaces, 108 cycle spaces, and a communal area on the upper ground floor with laundry facilities and a meeting and cinema room.

The planning application was submitted to the City of York Council by Urbanite – and supported by Quod and NW Architects. Planning is requested to demolish the current residential property and light industrial unit, to build the new PBSA development on a site on Mansfield Street. The new scheme will be an extension to the existing Coal Yard PBSA scheme on the same street.

“As the character of the surrounding area continues to evolve, the development proposals provide an opportunity to meet an identified need for student accommodation and make an effective use of previously developed land within a prominent and sustainable location in the main urban area of York.

“The PBSA use in this location is appropriate and will build on the success of The Coal Yard development, providing enhanced communal facilities for all existing and future occupiers of the buildings.”
