3DReid has announced it has received planning approval for an intergenerational mixed use development in the heart of Craigmillar, Edinburgh, on behalf of its clients – Keyworkers Living Ltd.

The Craigmillar Care and Residential Development will include purpose-built student accommodation, as well as assisted living residences and a dementia care centre.

The development will be built at the formerly industrial steeply sloping site which has been empty since 2006. Previously the site was a warehouse, and before that, a brewery. The new buildings aim to carefully repair what has long been a conspicuous gap site within the emerging town centre of Craigmillar.

In accordance with Craigmillar’s Urban Design Framework, the PBSA and assisted living will aim to reinstate the street edge to Niddrie Mains Road – with four storeys of new accommodation, commercial units, active frontage and a new public realm at their base.
