Durham University’s £80m Mount Oswald development is on South Road and is home to John Snow College, South College, the university hub building and a multi-use games area.
The project – developed by construction firm Interserve Group Limited – began construction in September 2018 – and completed this summer. This is the first project to be built for the university in 14 years, and works continued throughout the coronavirus pandemic, following Government guidance.
The Mount Oswald development provides self-catering purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) for 1,000 students. The first student leaders moved in, followed by undergraduates from 24 September.
Students can benefit from the university hub building on the development which has a faith and quiet room, and provides amenities including a gym, multi-use games area, music practice rooms, a dance studio, performance practice space, a launderette and a multi-use games area.
