Structured House Group and Harrison Street have sold Scotway House, a 399-bed Glasgow student accommodation scheme to Global Student Accommodation (GSA) – a global real estate asset manager in student housing. The building will now be managed and operated by GSA’s operational arm Yugo, with all tenancies transferred over to the experienced student housing brand. All staff members have also been transferred over to the new operator.

The addition of Scotway House brings the total number of managed student housing properties under GSA’s Yugo UK portfolio to 27. Globally, Yugo now provides over 35,000 student beds spanning nine countries and over 65 cities.

Situated in the heart of Glasgow, the aesthetic and modern accommodation at Scotway House has a mix of en-suite rooms with shared kitchen/living areas, self-contained studios and one-bedroom apartments, and is known for its three-level dedicated study and social building attached to the main accommodation block. Amenities at the scheme include a roof terrace, garden courtyards, a cinema room, gaming area, gym, private study booths and social areas. The idyllic location in Patrick next to the Riverside Museum provides fantastic views of the West End and the River Clyde, as well as the Campsie Fells Mountain Range on clear days.

Since opening in 2019, the accommodation managed by Glasgow-based BOHO has sold-out every year, attracting hundreds of student residents from surrounding Glasgow universities and colleges.

In 2021, BOHO partnered with local smart technology provider Utopi to put Scotway House on the path to reaching net-zero by installing sophisticated IoT technology to reduce its carbon footprint, the first student provider in the UK to take this initiative. As a result, Scotway House ensures a better living environment for residents, and was also awarded ‘Best Climate Crisis Initiative’ at the 2021 Student Accommodation Awards in London.

“At Yugo, creating better and more sustainable environments for our students is at the top of our agenda. Our most recent research revealed that 75% of students in the UK noted climate change as one of the biggest societal issues facing the world. It’s clear that students are more environmentally conscious than ever, and Scotway House’s recent accolades firmly aligns with Yugo’s values.

“Glasgow is a thriving student city, and it has long been our aim to offer the Yugo experience to students here. We’re incredibly proud and excited to open our doors and welcome another 399 students into our Yugo world.

“I’d like to thank the BOHO team for all their support during the transition – we look forward to continuing our journey with the team as we build an ever-stronger student community here in Scotland.”

Scotway House has also won ‘Most Amazing Design’ at the Northern Design Awards (2019) and was recognised for being the ‘Most Instagrammable Student Accommodation’ in Scotland by My Student Halls. BOHO’s MD Christine Young was also named ‘Managing Director of the Year’ at the 2019 Scottish Women’s Awards.

“I am extremely proud of the BOHO and Scotway House team and all that we have achieved. It’s been a fantastic few years from celebrating various awards to spearheading property tech by installing IoT technology to reduce our carbon footprint. The team have truly delivered an exceptional living and customer experience for our residents and I wish them every success as they join Yugo which I am sure will open many exciting opportunities. The handover has been very smooth due to our similar work ethic and ethos, I wish Yugo all the best with their first Glasgow residence.”
