Built by HG Construction, Alumno and Greenaway Architecture’s four-storey creative Brighton-based PBSA will feature a street-fronting café/gallery space and contain 42 studios and 18 ensuite rooms.

The sophisticated PBSA, which replaces a commercial unit and former petrol station, incorporates communal study spaces at roof level overlooking the city.

At basement level, a cinema for the film students will be available for residential access.

“We are particularly pleased to be offering our students such exceptional accommodation in such a unique and bespoke building. Our students will certainly be inspired by their surroundings and can be sure of experiencing top quality facilities in a central Brighton location.”

Greenaway Architecture’s focus was on bringing student community living, social interaction and a positive student experience to the development’s future residents.

The company have incorporated this vision into the communal spaces around the building, with a refined colour palette of warm grey brick complimented by black detailing designed to suit the coastal location and urban fabric of Brighton.

The buildings roofs are all chalk grassland biosolar green roofs to aid biodiversity, thermal efficiency, reduced rainwater runoff and capture renewable energy.

“We wanted to deliver a building with an edge to celebrate, motivate and compliment the bright and creative individuals that will occupy it. A new building worthy of being associated with Brighton’s Screen and Film school, dynamic, forward thinking and a bold visual statement.”

The Alumno PBSA will be situated on the junction of Brighton’s Lewes Road and Caledonian Road and has been welcomed by Brighton and Hove City Council for its visual enhancement of the streetscape.

Earlier in the year, Alumno’s plans for their London-based Rockingham Street PBSA were approved.
