Independent purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) provider Homes for Students has announced that for a second year running it has achieved the prestigious Investors in Students GOLD accreditation following feedback from a record number of survey respondents.

The accreditation from Investors for Students looks at the performance of the operator and measures the thoughts and feelings across students, front line colleagues, and senior management to gain an in-depth insight into how the companies deliver positive student outcomes.

The latest survey results demonstrate the first time Homes for Students residents have been surveyed twice during their stay; initially as they checked-in in autumn 2022 and again during the spring term 2023.

“The staff are engaging, friendly, approachable and I genuinely think we couldn’t have a better team taking care of us.”

Investor in Students has conducted a 360º assessment of over 190,000 students’ experience of living in student accommodation. Since inception, the accreditation administrators, WAU Agency, have surveyed 190,697 students and 1,963 employees across all its UK based members, with ten more universities and accommodation providers due to join for the 2023/24 academic cycle.

“The staff are really kind and helpful. The events they hold for us are friendly and engaging. Plus, the place is well maintained. They make it fun to live here! I’ve enjoyed my stay.”

Resident, Homes for Students

Homes for Students were delighted to learn their NPS increased by 5.30 points from 28.86 in autumn to 34.26 in spring, demonstrating a significant positive jump in students’ perception of their experience over the course of the year. It marks a 10.44 points increase compared to 2022 results. Residents gave special recognition to onsite teams and described the accommodation as comfortable, safe and good value for money.

With more students being surveyed than ever before is a direct reflection of Homes for Students’ ambition to consistently maintain the high standards of their residents’ experience and of strong engagement levels throughout the business.

“I’m so proud to achieve the gold standard once again with Investor in Students. The cyclical structure of the process provides regular benchmarking, driving continuous improvement both across the properties we manage and the PBSA sector. Our gold status provides professional reassurance for students, parents, universities and our clients. This accreditation means a great deal to our teams across the UK. Our colleagues are absolutely thrilled that their commitment and dedication is being recognised and celebrated on a national scale once again. I strongly believe our people are our superpower and when we pull together, we create extraordinary spaces where students can flourish on their educational journey.”

The results come off the back of student satisfaction at Homes for Student properties being at an all-time high. In addition to the Investor in Students success, Homes for Students were also recently presented with the Global Student Living (GSL) GOLD certification at this year’s CUBO Conference.

This was a result of the recent GSLI survey conducted this year which saw Homes for Student residents rating their stay this year as excellent with the bedroom facilities (85%), communication (78%) and the accommodation team (70%) given special praise.

“We are delighted to have achieved Investor in Students Gold accreditation and retain the top tier award once again. The Investor in Students accreditation process is a hugely in-depth and informative process that adds real value to what we do. With demand for university accommodation on the rise, it’s great that innovations such as the launch of our award-winning resident experience app KLIQ, colleague training and the countless enhancements to our service offerings are clearly improving students’ experience with us. The feedback from Investor in Students surveys plays a key part in our ongoing efforts to continually enhance and improve what we do.” Scott Lewis, Senior Director of Sales & Operations, Homes for Students
