Hospitality company Whitbread has announced that its new development in Norwich city centre will provide a purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) element if plans are given the go-ahead.
The plans are set to deliver two large blocks that will comprise 491 PBSA rooms.
Located opposite the city’s train station, the site was occupied by the Great Eastern Hotel until it was demolished in 1963 and The Hotel Nelson was built in its place in 1971.
The hotel is set to be demolished and rebuilt to make way for dozens of new homes and the potential PBSA scheme.

Designed by architectural practice Sheppard Robson, Whitbread has unveiled new illustrations for the scheme after nearly two years of design and planning work.
The details about the development were unveiled at a City Hall briefing, showing the site could provide homes for about 600 people.
Whitbread are likely to submit a formal planning application in the next few weeks. It will then be considered by City Hall in early 2025.
