Groody Developments has submitted a planning application to Limerick City and County Council for a new purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development in Limerick, located near the University of Limerick.
If approved, the new large-scale PBSA development – designed by Fewer Harrington and Partners – would deliver 196 clusters across blocks A to E, totalling 1,400 student beds. It is anticipated that the development will feature five buildings from five to eight storeys.
Proposals for the A building includes 28 clusters with 224 bed spaces, which would also include a library and student union facility. Block B, a seven storey building would include 52 clusters with 400 bed spaces and a reception and office, laundry room and canteen.
Block C, a six storey building would include 51 clusters with 355 bed spaces alongside a gym and other facilities. Also at six storeys, building D would include 32 clusters and 211 bed spaces, a student supply retail unit and a second student canteen. The five storey building E would include 33 clusters with 210 bed spaces.
Extensive landscaping proposals include landscaped courtyards, pedestrian and cycle connections from Groody Road to the Groody Green Wedge, natural landscaping and public walkways within the Groody Green Wedge, and a Wetland area adjacent to the Groody River.
Planning permission is also sought for use of Groody Developments’ PBSA scheme, outside of student term time, for short-term letting purposes. The firm is seeking permission to be valid for a period of seven years.
