What we do
Student Minds is the UK’s student mental health charity. We have a clear vision: No student should be held back by their mental health. We empower students to build their own mental health toolkit to support themselves and their peers through university life and beyond.
We collaborate with the higher education sector, health sector, and government to make student mental health a priority. Together, we’re improving university communities so that every student gets the mental health support they need to reach their goals.
Student Minds Training - giving individuals the skills to support student mental health
Our various training programmes are aimed specifically at individuals working within the higher education sector, giving them the skills and knowledge they need to support the student community. The Train the Trainer courses equip individuals to deliver workshops to students, focusing on supporting their peers mental health, noticing signs a peer may be struggling and strategies for starting a conversation.
Supporting Student Mental Health in Accommodation Settings
We know accommodation staff often find themselves on the frontline of supporting student residents with their mental health due to day-to-day interactions. Our Supporting Students' Mental Health in Accommodation Settings training equips your team to:
• Feel empowered to notice and guide struggling students
• Boost confidence in starting supportive conversations
• Solidify their commitment to student wellbeing
• Elevate impact and make a positive difference to student’s mental health and wellbeing
🧡 Look after their own wellbeing within the workplace
The Supporting Student Mental Health in Accommodation Settings training programme is designed for staff – from cleaners to night porters – who work directly with students, to give
them the tools to support and signpost their residents whilst maintaining appropriate boundaries.
The training includes Higher Education specific case studies and scenarios to empower staff to be able to notice and recognise signs and symptoms of mental health difficulties and provide the knowledge and confidence to know how to engage in a conversation about mental health difficulties, in order to signpost students to further support.. Once trained,
staff receive a certificate and training badge for use in their email signature - helping to promote your commitment to the wellbeing of your residents!
"I found the training to be highly informative and extremely relevant to my role. The content was well-researched and presented in a clear, understandable manner. Each module provided practical advice that I feel confident about integrating into my daily interactions with students."

Student Space:
Student Space is run by Student Minds and is here to make it easier for students to find the support that they need.
The site offers a range of trusted information, services and tools to support students through the uncertainty of student life, including content about managing living in residences.
Our content includes advice on managing many of the challenges students face in residences, including relationships, friendships and fallings-out; loneliness; mental health concerns; and thriving as a minoritised student. We encourage universities and accommodation providers to signpost students to our relevant articles.
Funded by the Office for Students and Medr, the support provided by Student Space is safe, confidential and free. It has been developed collaboratively with services, higher education professionals, researchers and students to complement the existing services available to students.
