McHugh Property Holdings Limited has secured planning to build a 586-bedroom purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme on Coolough Road, Galway. In total, the scheme will comprise 84 apartments.

The development will be arranged in seven blocks, which would vary in height from two to five storeys.

The new scheme would host 843 students across two developments as the apartment blocks would be located across the road from another PBSA development of 257 bedrooms that recently received planning permission from An Bord Pleanala.

The project – by McHugh Property Holdings Limited – also includes a communal open space, bicycle parking and car parking. Communal facilities will also be built on the ground floor of block A, including a retail space and a café.

The planning permission includes that the scheme will be utilised for short term visitor lettings during the summer months. The local authority approved planning permission with 26 conditions.
