The Refinery in Leeds is a 407 bed PBSA developement. It’s doors opened to students for the academic year 2021/22.
After a year, the operators were concerned about the energy costs for heating the building.
The Irus central control building energy management system was installed.
Analysis after the first year shows a 30% reduction in overall consumption and a whopping 50% in heating load from 598,892kWh to 301,910kWh.

Read the full story hereBoth our heating control systems operate in the same way. Rooms are kept at a constant ‘Comfort’ temperature. If the occupant wants a warmer room, they simply touch the ‘up’ button and the system enters ‘Boost’ mode and the temperature rises.
The difference between our two systems - Irus and ecoStat - is that ecoStat is programmed using a dedicated infrared handset, whereas Irus is centrally controlled via the Irus Portal, accessed via the internet.
Irus also has many other monitoring capabilities including, humidity, light, sound pressure, CO₂, leak detection, water heating control etc.

HobSensus is a device that prevents hobs from being left switched on if a kitchen is unattended.
It is both a sensor and a timer. The timer cuts power to the hob when the pre-set time elapses. The 64-zone sensor watches over the cooking surface. If temperatures approach dangerous levels it generates an audible and visual alarm. If no action is taken to turn the hob down, the power will be cut.

HobSensus can be integrated with Irus. This enables energy used by individual cookers, and sensor battery life (if not hard-wired) to be remotely monitored. Leak detection is an additional function HobSensus can employ when connected to Irus.
